Live is Life Opus (Polydor/OK, 1985)
Opus was an Austrian pop rock group. In the summer of 1985, they had a European number one single with Live is Life. Not content with that, Live is Life also topped the Canadian charts. Impressive numbers for sure, but even more impressive is the number of weeks Live is Life topped the European charts. In their native Austria, they racked up eight weeks. France loved it for seven weeks and Sweden stuck them there for four weeks. Germany added a further week. In fact, in France Live is Life currently sits as the country’s 149th best-selling single of all time!
Opus was formed in 1973. Their first album was released in 1980 (Daydreams). It took them until their third album, The Opusition (1982) before they hit the singles charts, with Flying High (#5 in both Austria and Switzerland). Live is Live was only Opus’ second single release! Opus has never hit number one again, though they have had other top 5 hits. They never had another hit on the American chart. Live is Life hit #32 in the U.S. Opus is still together and still performing.
