Mikey was banned in many countries upon its release in 1992. (It continues to be banned still in the UK.) Many graphic scenes of torture and murder contributed to the ban and the 1993 case of James Bulger didn’t help. (James Bulger was a 2-year-old child abducted, tortured and murdered by two 10-year-olds in Liverpool, England.) Mikey followed the life of Mikey Holt, a sociopathic nine-year-old who horrifically murders his foster parents and friends. Since many of his carers die of “accidents,” he frequently moves from family to family. Mainly he tries to avoid suspicion, meaning he kills anyone who starts to suspect his murderous tendencies.
