The Night the Lights Went out in Georgia Vicki Lawrence (Bell, 1972)
Written by Bobby Russell, The Night the Lights Went Out in Georgia is a Southern Gothic song sung by actress Vicki Lawrence. Off the album of the same name, the single peaked at #1 in the U.S. Country singer Reba McEntire covered the song in 1991 for her album, For My broken Heart. Comedy group The Credibility Gap recorded a parody song, The Night that The Lights Stayed on in Pittsburgh.

The Credibility Gap’s parody came out on 7-inch 45. And the city name was spelled Pittsburg (without the h on the end).
There are a few cities in the US that spell it that way — including West Pittsburg in Pennsylvania!
But I’ve always assumed it was a typo.
Trivia: The Credibility Gap included David Lander and Michael McKean, better known as Lenny & Squiggy from Laverne & Shirley. (And Harry Shearer, and a few other guys whose names I can’t recall.)
Mr. Lander passed away a few years ago. Mr. McKean’s career took a turn toward the serious when he played Jimmy’s brother Chuck on Better Call Saul.
