Mony Mony Tommy Jones and the Shondells (Roulette, 1968)
Tommy James and the Shondells are an American rock and roll band whose
most popular period was during the late 1960s. They’ve had two #1 singles in
the U.S. Hanky Panky (1966) and Crimson and Clover (1968).
Their fifth studio album, Mony Mony was their lowest charting album in the U.S. (#193). Their lead single, Get Out Now peaked at #48. Their second single, Mony Mony peaked at #3 (#1 in the UK). Their album’s final single, Somebody Cares peaked at #53.
In 1981, British rock star Billy Idol covered Mony Mony. In 1987 a live version of Idol’s Mony Mony was released and the song finally topped the American (and Canadian) charts.
