Slip ‘N Slide (Wham-O, 1961)
In 1961, Wham-O invented the Slip ‘N Slide. A rubber sheet was attached to your garden hose and that sheet became a lubricated sliding surface. Slip ‘N Slides were backyard staples until 1993. They were recalled — but not because they were dangerous for kids. Kids were actually the safest on them. Slip ‘N Slides are dangerous for teens and adults who just couldn’t resist getting in on the fun. The increased weight of teens and adults make them susceptible to permanent spinal cord injuries. In the Slip ‘N Slide’s case, kids are the only ones that can have all
the fun.
