ABC Jackson Five (Motown, 1970)
ABC was the second studio
album by American pop music family group The Jacksons. It was released May 8, 1970 (the same day as the final Beatles’ album Let it Be). On the
Billboard Album chart, it peaked at #4. It topped the Black Albums (which was the R&B
chart back then) for an astounding 12 weeks. ABC continued on the group’s domination of R&B music. The group was fresh off the success of I Want You Back from their debut album. ABC remains the Jackson Five’s most popular album, selling over 5.7 million copies worldwide.
The singles were: ABC, first heard on American Bandstand in February 1970. ABC hit #1 on both the Hot 100 and the R&B chart (four weeks). (Trivia: ABC was the song that knocked The Beatles’ Let it Be out of the top spot.) ABC is considered one of the Jackson Five’s signature songs. The Love You Save also went to #1 on the R&B chart for six weeks and on the Hot 100 for two weeks. The Love You Save was the third of four Jackson Five singles to hit #1 in a row. (The four songs were I Want You Back, ABC, The Love You Save and the upcoming I’ll Be There off their third album.)
