Long John Silver’s Peg Legs (1970s and 1980s)
In the 1970s and 1980s, Long John Silver had a menu item called Peg Legs. This was chicken drumsticks that were battered and fried served with fries and tiny morsels of fried batter. The batter that covered the chicken was the same batter the chain used on their fish. This delicious batter caused the chicken to be lighter and crunchier than other fast food chains and, as a result and not surprisingly, developed quite a following. The menu item didn’t last and the closest you can get, their Chicken Planks (chicken tenders) do not compare.
