Corsets (Victorian era)
When you think of women’s fashion in the Victorian era, what is the first article of clothing that springs to mind? Corsets? Well you should cause they were everywhere and on everyone. Corsets were worn to reduce waist size and to support bosoms which gave every woman’s figure a trendy shape. The Victorian era was also a time for extremes and some women took the practice to extremes in an attempt to reduce their waist size down to sixteen inches or less. Though tight lacing (as it was called) was condemned in women’s magazines and vilified by dressmakers, the undergarments were widely worn.
