This musical comedy film was produced by Motown Productions and CasaBlanca FilmWorks for Columbia Pictures. Thank God It’s Friday featured the Commodores performing Too Hot to Trot and Donna Summer performing Last Dance (which won the Oscar for Best Song in 1978. Terri Nunn who would go on to achieve fame in the 1980s in the group Berlin, an early performance from Jeff Goldblum and the first major big screen performance of Debra Winger. The plot of Thank God It’s Friday features vignettes of the patrons and staff of the Los Angeles disco nightclub The Zoo one Friday night. The film cost $2.2 million to make and brought home $7.3 million.
