Tara Correa-McMullen (May 24, 1989 – October 21, 2005)
Shalvah McMullen was an American actress born in Westminster, Vermont. In 1996, her family (her two parents and older sister) moved to Venice (an affluent Los Angeles neighborhood), California. Her only film role was in 2005 in Rebound. Her mother (who was working for a casting company at the time) had recommended Correa McMullen for the role. She won a role as a recurring character (gang member Graciela Reyes) on the CBS series Judging Amy during the show’s sixth season.
In early 2005, at 16 years old, Correa-McMullen moved into her own Inglewood apartment. She began dating a gang member 10 years her senior. On the evening of October 21, 2005, Correa-McMullen was shot dead by another gang member, Damien Watts. She was actually trying to run inside her complex for safety when she was shot. (Two other people were also shot but survived.) Watts was charged with one count of murder and two counts of attempted murder. He was convicted in January 2009. In February 2009, he was sentenced to five life sentences without parole. His accomplice, Joseph Wayne Jones, was also sentenced to life without parole.
