Hajime no Ippo: The Fighting! (Madhouse, NIppon Television and VAP, 2000s)

Hajime no Ippo is a Japanese boxing manga series first written and illustrated by George Morikawa. It first appeared in Weekly Shonen Magazine in the late 1980s. From October 2000 to March 2002, a 76-episode anime series was produced. A TV film was then released followed by a second season in 2009.

Ippo Makunouchi was an extremely shy high school student that helped his mother run the family fshing charter business. A group of bullies took to picking on him. One day he received a severe beating from the bullies. A middleweight professional boxer happened to pass by during the altercation and stopped the fight. He then took Ippo to a gym to treat his wounds. As Ippo regains consciousness, he is allowed to vent his frustrations at a sandbag. When Ippo’s natural talent is discovered, he decides to become a professional boxer.
