Simone Battle (June 17, 1989 – September 5, 2014)

Simone Sherise Battle was born and died in Los Angeles, California. Battle started her career in guest roles on sitcoms Zoey 101 and Everybody Hates Chris. She was featured in gospel group Mary Mary’s music video for Get Up and as a dancer in hip hop group Cali Swag District’s music video for Teach Me How to Dougie. In 2011, she was a finalist on the American X-Factor music show competition. Her feature film debut was in 2012 in We the People. Later that year, she was announced to be part of the dance ensemble Pussycat Dolls new lineup. The Pussycat Dolls had disbanded in 2010. The “next generation” of the group was to be G.R.L.

At only age 25, Battle died September 5, 2014. Her cause of death is listed as suicide by hanging. A spokesperson for Battle stated the young singer/actress had been suffering from depression due to financial issues. G.R.L. issued a single Lighthouse as a tribute to their fallen member.
