Addictive Truth Hurts (Aftermath, 2002)

Addictive was one of Aftermath’s few R&B hits and based on a Hindi music sample, which brought on a $500 million lawsuit. Addictive also has the distinction of making Truth Hurts a one hit wonder. It peaked at #9 and was a top five hit in the UK, France and Switzerland.

The reason for the lawsuit was that producer DJ Quik had heard an Hindi-song early one morning. It turned out to be Thoda Resham Lagta Hai and Quik used a sample of the 1981 song by Lata Mangeshkar and Aftermath failed to clear the rights. Addictive features a rap by Rakim. The single has been certified Gold in both Belgium and France and 5 times Platinum in the U.S.
