Community (NBC/Yahoo! Screen, 2009 – 2015)

Community was an American sitcom that followed an ensemble cast of characters attending a community college in the fictional town of Greendale, Colorado. The show starred Joel McHale, Gillian Jacobs, Danny Pudi, Yvette Nicole Brown, Alison Brie, Donald Glover, Ken Jeong, Chevy Chase and Jim Rash. Community heavily uses meta-humor and pop culture references, often parodying film and TV cliches. Community was created by Dan Harmon who based the show on his own experiences attending a community college. Harmon was in complete control of Community for the first three seasons until being fired. He was re-hired by NBC for the fifth season, the show’s final season with them. After the season ended, NBC cancelled the show. For its sixth and final season, Yahoo! Screen took control. Community ran from September 17, 2009 until March 17, 2015; 110 episodes were produced. A film adaptation is currently in the works.

Despite low ratings, Community has developed a cult following and appeared on various critics’ “Best-Of” TV lists in 2009, 2010 and 2011. All seasons are available for purchase on DVD. In addition, if you have Hulu in the U.S., you can watch the entire series; or on Stan if you live in Australia or Netflix for those who reside in the UK, Canada, Ireland or Latin America.
