Beach Baby The First Class (UK Records, 1974)

Beach Baby was written by John Carter and his wife Gillian “Jill” Shakespeare, at their home in Southwest London. They hired Tony Burrows and Chas Mills to help them record it. They formed the band, The First Class. Burrows attempted to sing in an American accent, to reinforce the setting of the song in California.

Beach Baby peaked at #13 in the UK, #4 in the U.S. and topped the Canadian chart. Despite two subsequent albums and numerous singles, The First Class was not able to recreate their success of Beach Baby.
