1776 (Simon & Schuster, 2005)

1776 (or 1776: America and Britain at War
in the UK) is a nonfiction historical book written by David McCullough. 1776 is considered a companion piece to McCullough’s earlier biography of John Adams.

1776 recounts the story of the birth of the United States of America. 1776 presents
two stories: how a group of squabbling, disparate colonies became the U.S. and how the British Empire tried to stop them.

In 2007, 1776 was re-released as an illustrated edition featuring 140 images and 37 removable replicas of source documents. More than 3 dozen source documents were recreated in uniquely designed envelopes secured with a congressional seal and are scattered throughout the book.
