Telephone Booth Stuffing (1950s)

College students would stuff themselves into a telephone booth, one by one, until no one else could squeeze in. Often associated with West Coast students, this fad started in
South Africa. 25 students packed into a
booth and they claimed they had set a world record. English, Canadian and American students caught wind of it and made
attempts of their own. This fad only lasted a year (until about 1959) when they began to focus back on their studies. The fad saw a reincarnation a few years later when the Volkswagen caught on and they stuffed themselves in the car.
