Baby on Board Signs (1980s)
The first Baby on Board sign appeared in 1985 via a child safety-oriented company. They were created to let your fellow drivers take caution to protect the smallest passenger(s) in vehicles. In the early days, parents were enamored and several companies came up
with their own clever signs. Baby on Board signs were everywhere.
Unfortunately sometimes the signs posed a safety hazard themselves if they were placed in the wrong place and obstructed the view of the driver. This soon led to state legislation to regulate where they could be placed. By the 1990s, the babies were growing up and the signs began to wane in popularity. Today they are still around but are seen much less frequently.
