Knock On Wood Amii Stewart (Atlantic, 1979)

Knock On Wood was written by Eddie Floyd and Steve Cropper. Floyd originally took it to the charts and landed at #28 on the Hot 100 and topped the R&B chart for a week in 1966. Knock On Wood has been covered by numerous artists over a multitude of genres. The most successful version came in 1979 with a disco version.

In 1979, Amii Stewart released her debut album, Knock On Wood. Her debut single was a cover of Floyd’s 1966 single. Stewart’s version topped the charts in Canada and the U.S. It went top five (additonally) in France, Italy, New Zealand, Sweden and Switzerland. Additionally it went top ten in Austria, both charts in the Netherlands, South Africa and the UK. A remixed version appeared in 1985 and saw Stewart’s version of Knock On Wood re-enter the charts in Belgian, Ireland and the UK. Stewart’s version was featured on the 1998 film soundtrack for The Last Days of Disco, which pushed Knock On Wood back onto the French chart in 1999.
