Just Want to Hold You Jasmine Guy (Warner Brothers, 1990)

In the middle of the success that American actress Jasmine Guy was experiencing while playing Whitley Gilbert on the NBC sitcom, A Different World, Guy released an R&B self-titled album. (Fellow A Different World costar Cree Summer provided background vocals for the album.) Guy’s album peaked at #143 on the Album chart and #38 on the R&B Album chart. Three singles were released: Try Me (#14 on the R&B chart), Another Like My Lover (#66 on the Hot 100 and #6 on the R&B chart) and Just Want to Hold You, the album’s best performing Hot 100 single. It was also a duet with R&B singer James Ingram. Just Want to Hold You peaked at #34 on the Hot 100 and #27 on the R&B chart.

There were plans for a sophomore album in 1993. A Different World was in its final season, but before the album was released, Guy and Warner Brothers parted ways and the plans were shelved.
