Earth Girls Are Easy (Vestron Pictures, 1988)

Earth Girls Are Easy was a 1989 American musical romantic comedy starring Geena Davis, Julie Brown, Jeff Goldblum, Damon Wayans and Jim Carrey. The plot for the movie is based on Julie Brown’s 1984 song of the same name. Three furry aliens (Goldblum, Wayans and Carrey) are attracted to Earth after they receive a broadcast of these “hairless” females.

Earth Girls Are Easy was supposed
to go into production in 1986 for Warner Brothers. But when director Julien Temple’s film Absolute Beginners bombed, Warner Brothers panicked. The role of Valerie was offered to Madonna and Molly Ringwald who both passed. Warner Brothers then did the same. Other studios were interested minus Temple. A French bank agreed to finance the film and Earth Girls Are Easy was made. Produced for just under $4 million, the movie made $10 million. A stage show was produced in September 2001. Since the U.S. was slightly busy with a major terrorist event at the time, the show was not able to secure enough backers and was scrapped.
