A (Tidepoint Pictures, 1998)

A is a 1998 Japanese documentary film
about the Aum Shinrikyo religious cult. They were responsible for releasing sarin gas on the Tokyo subway system in 1995. The film focuses on the cult’s spokesperson Araki Hiroshi. Since director Mori Tatsuya was granted exclusive access to Aum’s offices for over a year, Tatsuya caught much more than the daily life of the group’s members.

The documentary created a heated debate in Japan. The Aum Shinrikyo cult still exists — under a different name.
