Melba (CBS, 1986)

Melba was an American sitcom that aired on CBS and was placed on hiatus after the first episode aired on January 28, 1986. The remaining five episodes aired during the summer, ending on September 13, 1986. Why the hiatus? January 28, 1986 also happened to be the day of the Space Shuttle Challenger explosion.

Melba centered around a divorced mother who worked as the director of New York’s Manhattan Visitors Center. Melba was played by Melba Moore. Jamilla Perry was Melba’s 9-year-old daughter. Barbara Meek was Melba’s mother Rose. Gracie Harrison was Melba’s friend. Lou Jacobi was Jack and Evan Mirand was Gil who both worked for Melba at the Visitors’ Center.
