Yakety Sax Boots Randolph (Monument, 1963)

Yakety Sax was a pop-jazz instrumental that became so closely associated with the Benny Hill Show that it’s known as “The Benny Hill Theme.” Yakety Sax is often featured in TV or films as the soundtrack to outlandishly humorous situations. Yakety Sax was inspired by the sax solo in Yakety Yak recorded in 1958 by The Coasters.

Randolph had first recorded Yakety Sax in 1958 for RCA Victor. It didn’t become a hit until he re-recorded it in 1963 for Monument Records. It hit #35 on Billboard’s Hot 100.
