Baby Food Diet (2000s)

Tracy Anderson is a celebrity fitness trainer who invented the Baby Food Diet. Since she never actually published the diet, the “rules” are up for interpretation. The gist is this: you replace two daily meals with jars of (homemade is better) pureed baby food. The third meal is to be low calorie and small. The daily caloric intake should be no more than 600 calories. This is not meant to be a long-term diet, it should actually be labeled as a “cleanse,” as you should only be on it for no more than a week at a time. The purpose of the Baby Food Diet was to rid your body of toxins and end cravings of unhealthy foods.

The problem is the caloric intake is just too low. You will lose weight, but as soon as you eat normally — even if you cut out all unhealthy foods — you’ll gain weight back. In addition, babies have different nutritional needs than adults, and baby food doesn’t contain all nutrients that adults need. (You could be doing yourself more harm than good on this “diet.”) In terms of ridding yourself of cravings, don’t count on it. What adult is going to start craving the taste of baby food?

Anderson is neither a doctor nor a nutritionist and only based the diet on client testimonials. After the diet went viral and came under scrutiny, she denied her connection to it. She remains a celebrity fitness trainer.
