The Horse Cliff Nobles & Co. (Phil-L.A. of Soul, 1968)
The Horse was an instrumental song recorded by Cliff Nobles & Co. and was the B-side to Love is All Right. In fact, The Horse was Love is All Right without the vocal. The Horse peaked at #2 on both the Hot 100 and Black Singles (the R&B) charts. The Horse sold over a million copies in the first three months of its release and was certified Gold in August 1968.
Trivia: Technically Noble wasn’t on The Horse. He sang the vocals on Love is All Right, which was cut from The Horse. Also, the horn section on The Horse eventually became the group MFSB.
The Horse continues to be a staple for marching bands and pep bands and is often heard at football and basketball games.
