I Never Liked You (Drawn and Quarterly, 1994)

I Never Liked You is a graphic novel by Canadian cartoonist Chester Brown. I Never Liked You was inspired by Brown’s real teenage introversion and social awkwardness with the opposite sex. The story was first seen in issues #26-30 of his mini comic, Yummy Fur.

Brown grew up in a Montreal suburb and hoped to find work with Marvel or DC after high school. When these dreams didn’t pan out, he moved to Toronto and found work in the underground/small press comic world. He was able to publish his own work via Yummy Fur. I Never Liked You was the last work of Brown’s early autobiographical period.
