No Parlez (CBS/Columbia, 1983)

No Parlez was the debut album of English singer Paul Young. No Parlez was a number one album in the UK for five non-consecutive weeks. It remained in the Top 100 for 119 weeks! No Parlez has been certified Triple Platinum in the UK. Initially his first two singles, Iron Out the Rough Spots and a
cover of the Four Preps’ Love of the Common People didn’t garner much attention. His third single was a cover of Marvin Gaye’s Wherever I Lay My Hat (That’s My Home) hit number one for three weeks in the summer of 1983. That got people’s attention! This became the first (of 14) UK Top 40 singles of his career. Come Back and Stay reached number four. Love of the Common People was re-released and peaked at #2.

No Parlez was re-released in August 2008 as a 25th Anniversary Edition. Does Paul Young sound familiar but you can’t place him? His 1983 follow-up album, The Secret of Association contained the #1 U.S. single Everytime You Go Away.
