50 First Dates (Columbia, 2004)
50 First Dates was a 2004 American romantic comedy starring Adam Sandler as veterinarian Henry Roth and Drew Barrymore as Lucy, an amnesiac. Lucy and her father had gotten into a car accident that left Lucy with Goldfield Syndrome (a fictitious disease), a memory impairment. She awakes every day thinking it’s October 13, 2002. Henry and Lucy hit it off and makes plans to meet later, where she is unable to recall meeting him.
50 First Dates also stars Rob Schneider as Ula, Henry’s assistant; Sean Astin as Doug, Lucy’s older brother; Dan Aykroyd as Dr. Keats; Maya Rudolph as Stacy and Kevin James in a cameo role (his first film role).
Produced for $75 million, 50 First Dates brought Columbia just over $196 million back. Sandler and Barrymore won an MTV Movie Award for Best On-Screen Team.
