The Ballad of Jayne L.A. Guns (Vertigo, 1990)

Hard rock band L.A. Guns released their second full-length album, Cocked & Loaded in August 1989. This was their first album to be certified Gold.

Despite the fact that L.A. Guns has released 12 studio albums, six live albums, 8 compilation albums, 5 EPs and 2 cover albums, only four of their singles have hit the charts! Their first and best known hit was 1990’s The Ballad of Jayne. It hit #33 on Billboard’s Hot 100, #25 on the Mainstream Rock chart and #53 in the UK.

The Ballad of Jayne is about blond bombshell actress Jayne Mansfield. Mansfield has often been compared to Marilyn Monroe. Mansfield was killed in a car accident at age 34.

L.A. Guns was first formed in 1983 by guitarist Traci Guns and singer Axl Rose. Rose soon left to form a new band, Hollywood Guns. Guns soon left L.A. Guns to join Hollywood Rose which became Guns N’ Roses in 1985. Guns didn’t remain in G’N’R too long. His frequent rehearsal misses saw him replaced by guitarist Slash.
