Velveteen Rabbit (George H. Duncan Company, 1922)

This children’s novel was written by Margery Williams and illustrated by William Nicholson. The Velveteen Rabbit was Williams’ first children’s book. It was awarded the IRA/CBC Children’s Choice award. In a National Education Association 2007 online poll, it was named one of the “Teachers’ Top 100 Books for Children.”

The Velveteen Rabbit tells the story of a stuffed rabbit’s quest to become real due to the love of his owner. The book has been adapted into numerous films, TV specials and animated series.
