Number the Stars is an historical fiction novel
from American author Lois Lowry. It chronicles
ten-year-old Annemarie Johansen’s escape from Copenhagen during WWII’s Occupation of
Denmark in an attempt to evade the Holocaust. Number the Stars was awarded a Newbery Medal
in 1990 as “the most distinguished contribution to American literature for children.”
