Charles Lewis Jr. (June 23, 1963 – March 11, 2009)
Charles David Lewis Jr. was an American businessman, UFC fight promoter and entertainer. He was known as “The Mask” because he often painted lines on his face. In 1997, he and two friends founded the TapouT clothing line. They sold their mixed martial arts apparel from the back of their Mustang. Ten years later, TapouT was bringing in
$22.5 million. Also in 2007, Lewis starred in TapouT, a reality TV series following newcomer mixed martial arts fighters.
On March 11, 2009, in the early morning hours, Lewis appeared to be engaged in a street race in Newport Beach, California. His Ferrari collided with a Porsche and struck a light pole. Lewis was pronounced dead at the scene. He was only 45 years old.
In July 2009, Lewis (the only non-fighter ever) was inducted into the UFC Hall of Fame.
