Goodnight Moon by Margaret Wise Brown (Harper & Brothers, 1947)

This classic children’s literature picture book has been beloved by generations of parents and children. It is a simple story: a child says goodnight to everything it can see. Sales steadily climbed, maxing out at 4 million in 1990. Goodnight Moon has been translated into French, Spanish, Dutch, Chinese, Japanese, Hebrew, Russian, Swedish and Korean.

Brown published a sequel in 1949, My World. Both her books were illustrated by Clement Hurd.
