Brewster’s Millions (Universal, 1985)

This film was the seventh take on the 1902 novel of the same name by George Barr McCutcheon. This version starred Richard Pryor and John Candy.

Brewster (Pryor) is a minor league baseball player. When a rich relative dies, Brewster is to dispose of $30 million in 30 days. He is not allowed to own any assets that weren’t his to begin with nor is he allowed to donate more than 5% to charity or to lose more than 5% by gambling. He isn’t allowed to tell anyone what he’s doing either. If successful, Brewster stands to gain $300 million! He decides to take the challenge so Brewster and his best friend Nolan (Candy) embark on the journey.

Brewster’s Millions has taken in almost $46 million at the box office.
