Hey! Baby by Bruce Channel (Smash Records, 1962)

In 1959, Bruce Channel wrote Hey! Baby with Margaret Cobb. The song went to #1 in the U.S. and #2 in the UK. On a European tour, at one concert Channel was supported by the then unknown Beatles. The harmonica that was heard on Hey! Baby served as an inspiration for their debut single in 1962 Love Me Do.

Over the course of his recording career, Channel achieved four more minor hits on Billboard. In the 70s and 80s, due to his dislike of touring, Channel settled in Nashville as a songwriter.

Channel has been inducted into the Rockabilly Hall of Fame. You can catch Hey! Baby on the soundtrack to the 1987 movie Dirty Dancing.
