Howard the Duck (Universal, 1986)
Following American Graffiti, director George Lucas stepped down from the presidency of Lucasfilm to focus on producing Howard the Duck. Originally Lucas wanted Howard to be an animated version of the Marvel comic book. A contractual obligation prevented the animation, which in hindsight, was a harbinger of things to come.
In Duckworld, anthropomorphic ducks live their lives. One evening, Howard is sucked from his apartment and ends up in Cleveland, Ohio. Howard (voiced by Chip Zien) is discovered by Beverly (Lea Thompson) who takes him in and then eventually they end up at Phil Blumburtt’s (Tim Robbins) office. Blumburtt can hopefully help Howard return home.
Howard the Duck is considered to be top dog in movie-making circles — the Top Dog of commercial flops that is. Nominated for 7 Razzies in 1987, Howard the Duck won 4 and won a Stinkers Bad Movie Award for Worst Picture.
