The Goonies (Warner Brothers, 1985)
This 1985 American adventure-comedy film was written by Chris Columbus from a story by executive producer Steven Spielberg. The plot focuses on a group of preteens from Astoria, Oregon who while trying to save their homes from demolition stumble upon an old map that leads them to the long-lost fortune of a 17th century pirate named One Eyed Willie. The movie starred Sean Astin, Corey Feldman and Josh Brolin. Director Richard Donnor cameos as an ATV-riding deputy. (Singer Cyndi Lauper had a hand in the movie’s soundtrack.)
In its opening weekend, The Goonies took in $9 million. In total for 1985 it took in over $61 million and became one of the top grossing films for 1985. Much of the filming for The Goonies was actually done in real-life Astoria, Oregon.
