ZOOM (PBS, 70s)

ZOOM was a different kind of TV program when it debuted in the 70s: it was primarily an unscripted series. A rotating cast of 7 kids performed various educational activities, such as games, plays, poems, recipes, jokes and science experiments. All the activities were based on write-in suggestions by the television viewers. The show encouraged kids to “Turn off the TV and do it!”

The program ran for 6 seasons from January 3, 1972 to March 24, 1978 for a total of 130 episodes. In 1974, A&M Records released an album of songs from the show; there were also two books published based on the series. In 1997, WCBH featured a “Where Are They Now?” special video and book on some of the cast members.
