Fedora hats
This felt hat is typically creased lengthwise and pinched in the front and on both sides. Fedoras have been around since 1891, but their popularity peaked in the 20s through the 50s thanks to gangsters and Prohibition.
The word fedora comes from the 1882 play by Victorien Sardou, Fedora, which was written for Sarah Bernhardt. During the play, Bernhardt sports a fedora. Women’s rights activists took to wearing the hat and men took over the trend after 1924.
Trying to keep fedoras fashionable were such icons as Indiana Jones (see above) and Michael Jackson (see below).
