Arthur (Warner Brothers, 1981)
Arthur, the 1981 comedy film was written and directed by Steve Gordon. The film was his first and only as he died the following year of a heart attack at age 44. The film stars Dudley Moore as the title character, a millionaire who instead of following through with his arranged marriage to an heiress, ends up falling for a common working girl from Queens (Liza Minelli).
Having earned almost $96 million, Athur was the fourth highest grossing film of 1981. It was nominated for four Academy Awards and took home two.
The film inspired a sequel in 1988 and a remake starring Russell Brand in 2011.
