The Conk

The conk hairstyle rose to fame in the 1920s continuing on through the 60s. Men that had naturally “kinky” hair chemically straightened it with a relaxer so that they could specifically style their newly straight hair. Conks required a huge amount of effort to maintain so the hair would not revert back to its natural state and required repeated applications of relaxers to keep newly grown hair chemically relaxed.
